Vol. 418 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dublin Hospital.

Ivor Callely

92 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the number of beds designated for elective plastic surgery procedures in St. James's Hospital, Dublin; whether the present bed complement is sufficient; and if he has received any submissions on this matter.

The allocation of beds at St. James's is a matter for the hospital authorities in the first instance. The beds allocated to each speciality was decided by the hospital board after exhaustive consultation with all the interests concerned.

I understand that the following beds are available for plastic surgery: 15 designated plastic surgery beds; 12 beds in the burns unit (included four cots for children) and 4 beds shared with the maxilla facial unit. The speciality also has access to the pool of 12 beds in the surgical day unit. I have not received submissions in the matter.
