Credited contributions are awarded to an insured person for any week of proved unemployment. A person normally proves unemployment by signing the unemployed register at the appointed time and thereby declaring that she/he is unemployed and available for work.
The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment assistance up to 1965 when he ceased to claim and ceased to sign the register of unemployed. He next made contact with the local office of the Department on 23 December 1991 and has been in receipt of unemployment assistance since that date. As he did not sign the unemployed register between 1965 and 1991, he is not entitled to credited contributions during that period.
