Vol. 418 No. 9

Written Answers. - CERT Capital Services.

Michael Ferris

Ceist:

47 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Labour the reason for the increase of 52 per cent in the voted capital services for CERT as indicated in the revised Estimates for Public Services; the purposes for which the capital services will be spent; the number of jobs it is expected to create both temporarily and permanently; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The 52 per cent increase in the voted capital services in 1992 for CERT is to provide for the completion of building work on CERT's new national training centre and headquarters at Amiens Street, Dublin, which commenced in June 1991.

The building will allow CERT to centralise all Dublin-based services and will replace the agency's current headquarters at Lansdowne Road and its two Dublin training centres at Roebuck Road and East Wall Road.

During construction of the building a total of 40 people have been employed, in a temporary capacity.

Given that the new building serves to centralise existing CERT services and facilities, additional permanent jobs will not be created as a result of the development. The new arrangements will, however, permit a better delivery of services.
