Vol. 420 No. 3

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) the proposed closure of Ardattin post office in Carlow; Deputy Spring — the progress being made in responding to the request by Kerry County Council for approval for a new landfill site at Muingnaninnane, Raemore, Tralee; Deputy Ryan — the steps the Minister for Tourism Transport and Communications proposes to take to secure a settlement of the dispute in An Post, arising from her meeting with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions; Deputy Lowry — the recent decision by Chevron to reduce their mineral assets world wide and the implications for an exploration company (details supplied) in Thurles, County Tipperary; Deputy J. Higgins — the enormous hardship being caused to disability benefit appeal applicants in view of the cancellation of all such appeals in the light of the ongoing postal dispute; Deputy Enright — the question of a young person as outlined in an article in the Sunday Indepdenent on Sunday 24 May (details supplied) who was convicted of burglary and who was sentenced to prison and the fact that the court order was not implemented by the authorities because of the lack of available custodial accommodation; Deputy Durkan — the conflict that exists between the spirit of the Programme for Government as agreed by both Government parties, with particular reference to retention and expansion of indigenous jobs, and the apparent approval by the Government of Bord na Móna's proposals to close Lullymore briquette factory with a loss of 150 jobs.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Enright, Ryan and J. Higgins.
