Vol. 420 No. 4

Written Answers. - Construction of Interpretative Centres.

Roger T. Garland

Ceist:

25 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Finance whether any contracts for the construction of any of the following centres have been signed - Dunquin, Wicklow and the Burren; and if so, whether tax payers' money will be jeopardised should the Structural Funds for these centres not be sanctioned by the EC.

The construction of the Interpretative Centre at the Great Blasket Island National Historic Park is already in progress. No final decision has yet been made regarding the Interpretative Centres at the Wicklow Mountains and the Burren National Parks, and therefore no contract for the construction of those centres has yet been signed.

The Office of Public Works has complied with all EC requirements in relation to these projects, and consequently I can see no reason why Structural Funds will not be forthcoming.
