The proposal to open file all mining and exploration data which is more than six years old is just one of a number of items being discussed with the industry with a view to stimulating prospecting activity and speeding up the application and renewal process. The intention of the open file proposal is to make available to the industry data which will give a better understanding of the geology of the country. These proposals are in draft form at present and I will of course give full consideration to any views expressed by industry in the matter.
