Vol. 421 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

The Ceann Comhairle wishes to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to him under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Kelly — the proposal by Cork County Council to sell a portion of land at Gurteenard, Kanturk, County Cork, which cost approximately £24,000, for the nominal sum of £1,000 to a private individual; and if he will investigate the position; (2) Deputy Gregory — the need to have a remedial teacher sanctioned for St. Paul's primary school, North Brunswick Street Dublin, now the only Dublin inner city school serving a severely disadvantaged area without a remedial teacher; (3) Deputy McCartan — the establishment by the Defence Forces of a special planning group to consider the implications of Ireland's developing relationship with NATO and the Western European Union; and the implications of this move for Ireland's military and defence policy; (4) Deputy Gilmore — the temporary embargo which has been imposed on the recruitment of participants for social employment schemes; (5) Deputy Durkan — the failure of the Government to respond to rescue proposals which were submitted by the former employees of Lullymore briquette factory to the Taoiseach and at least two Cabinet Ministers; the lack of interest shown by the Government in regard to the loss of approximately 150 indigenous jobs in an area likely to be designated disadvantaged and the combined failure of Bord na Móna and the Minister for Energy to make any attempt to ensure the survival of the Lullymore plant; (6) Deputy Ryan — the crisis that is arising in the FCA as a result of hundreds of members throughout the country being denied access to the one week summer training camp; (7) Deputy G. O'Sullivan — whether the Minister for Energy will take immediate action to prevent job losses in Coillte Teoranta and (8) Deputy Sheehan — the serious threat of sanctions to be imposed by the US Administration on the export of Irish liqueur and cheese products and the steps the Minister for Agriculture and Food intends to take in this regard.

The Ceann Comhairle has selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Ryan, Sheehan and Gilmore.
