Vol. 421 No. 2

Written Answers. - EC Directives.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

97 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the number and type of EC directives that are operable under his Department; if Ireland adheres to all such directives; if Ireland is in breach of any of these directives; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department is responsible for the implementation of Directive 89/48/EEC concerning a general system for the mutual recognition of higher education qualifications awarded on completion of professional education and training of at least three years duration. This directive was full transposed into Irish Law by Statutory Instrument No. 1 of 1991 signed by the Minister for Education on 2 January 1991.

The only other directive applicable to my Department is Directive 77/486/EEC on the education of children of migrant workers. I am satisfied that the existing policies being pursued by my Department meet the requirements of this directive.
