Vol. 421 No. 6

Written Answers. - Inchicore (Dublin) School Remedial Teaching Service.

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

29 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if he has received an application for the provision of a remedial teacher at Scoil Lán-Ghaelach Inse Chór, Dublin 8; and if, due to the special circumstances at this school, he is now in a position to approve the appointment of a remedial teacher.

I have received a request for a remedial teacher from the school in question.

As the Deputy will be aware, 80 additional remedial posts serving over 240 schools were allocated in the current school year as part of a national distribution under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

These appointments were made following the collection of data and information by my Department's Primary Inspectorate from schools. The posts were then allocated on the basis of priority of need, as indicated by the information collected by the inspectorate.

The needs of other schools, including the school mentioned by the Deputy, will be kept under review.
