Vol. 421 No. 6

Written Answers. - College Lecturer Grade Anomalies.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

111 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to problems caused in the regional technical colleges and colleges of technology by the grading anomalies that exist as between the lecturer I and lecturer II grades; if he will make a statement on the reason for different grading of persons doing the same work; and if he will outline the action, if any, he proposes to take on this matter.

There are two levels of the permanent whole-time grade of lecturer in the Regional Technical Colleges and Colleges of Technology LI and LII. The qualifications and experience required for appointment to the grades are specified by my Department. Recruitment of permanent whole-time lecturers takes place in practice at LI level. LIs whose service is satisfactory are eligible to apply for vacancies at LII level, when they occur.

The general issue of linkage between the two grades is under consideration in my Department at present.
