Vol. 422 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sligo General Hospital.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

172 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health if he will outline (1) the total cost to date of the construction and equipping of the new extension to Sligo General Hospital (2) the extra facilities that are incorporated in the extension (3) the work which has still to be done and (4) the cost of this work.

The capital funding which has been made available to date by my Department for the construction and equipping of the new development at Sligo General Hospital is £31.5 million. The main facilities that are incorporated in the new development are as follows:

In-patient standard ward units (including ENT, Gynaecology and Obstetric specialities), Intensive Care Unit, Operating Theatres, Coronary Care Unit and the following departments:

Out-Patient, Accident and Emergency, Diagnostic Imaging, Physical Medicine, Central Sterile Supplies, Pharmacy, Pathology, Day Services (including Endoscopy & Functional Assessment), Catering and Staff Dining, General Supplies, Services & Disposal, Boilerhouse, Plant-room, Switchrooms, Medical Records and Administration.

The work remaining to be completed consists mainly of car-park surfacing, residual site works, and the fitting out and equipping of facilities such as the laboratory and day care services. The cost of this work will depend on several factors which are difficult to quantify accurately in advance and I am not in a position to give a precise figure at this stage.
