Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cable Television Service.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

247 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she has received any complaints about the breakdown in service of cable television in the Limerick region; and if she will outline the steps, if any, the Government intends taking to ensure that the companies to whom they have granted exclusive licences in different areas provide an adequate service.

The provision of cable television service is a matter for the relevant licensed operator. The operator for Limerick has assured my Department that there is no general breakdown in cable service in the area. My Department has a small number of individual and localised complaints on hands about the service supplied by the cable operator in the Limerick area and these have been taken up with the company. My Department keeps in regular contact with all cable companies to ensure that the exclusive nature of their licences is not abused.
