274 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health the reason he is not introducing a Departmental Charter of Rights to cover general medical services patients despite a call for such a move by the Irish Medical Organisation.
I have asked the Review of the General Medical Service, which is currently underway to examine all aspects of general practitioner services. The Review is addressing a wide range of issues which will have a direct bearing on the delivery of general practitioner care in the future. I am satisfied that the rights of general medical service patients can best be protected in the context of the revised arrangements which it is anticipated will emerge from the Review process.
