Vol. 423 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Kildare Schools.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

78 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the starting and completion dates for the provision of new facilities at Brownstown national school, Cumagh, County Kildare; when the premises will be ready for occupation; if all arrangements in respect of local and departmental funding have now been agreed upon; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not in a position to say when the examination of tenders in this case will be completed as fire officer requirements need to be finalised following changes in building regulations. The standard rate of grant and of local contribution applies and the project would be expected to be completed within a year of commencement.

Ceist:

79 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the starting and completion dates for the provision of new facilities at Churchtown national school, Athy, County Kildare; when the premises will be ready for occupation; if all arrangements in respect of local and departmental funding have now been agreed upon; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The contract for a replacement school at Churchtown, Athy, County Kildare was placed in September 1992. The building contract is due for completion nine months after the starting date.

Arrangements regarding the grant-in-aid and local contributions have been agreed with the chairman of the board of management in August 1992.

It is not possible for me to say at this stage when the building will be ready for occupation as the many factors involved in the construction of the project are outside my control.
