Vol. 423 No. 4

Written Answers. - Community Employment Development Programme.

James C. Tunney

Ceist:

188 Mr. Tunney asked the Minister for Labour if he will ensure that maximum finances will be made available to the Community Employment Development Programme in order to cope with the plight of the unemployed in the Finglas, Ballymun, Whitehall, Santry, Glasnevin areas of Dublin.

The community employment development programme is available only to long term unemployed people living in the 12 pilot areas of the area-based response to long term unemployment initiative. The 12 areas are Ballymun, Coolock/Darndale, Cork North City, Dublin Inner City, Dundalk, Finglas, South-West Kerry, Limerick, North Mayo, Tallaght, West Waterford and South-West Waterford. I can confirm that the funds required from my Department for the community employment development programme generally will be sufficient to cover activity under the programme in 1992. The level of activity and funding for the programme in 1993 will be considered as part of the annual estimates process. The level of funding for the programme in individual partnership areas is a day-to-day matter for FÁS.
