Ceist:225 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Social Welfare if approval will issue in respect of an application for a free fuel allowance by persons (details supplied) in County Mayo.

Fuel Allowances are payable only to persons in receipt of certain long term social welfare or Health Board payments and provided certain other conditions are fulfilled.
The persons concerned are a sister and brother who reside together. The sister is in receipt of Disability Benefit which is not a qualifying payment for the purposes of the National Fuel Scheme. The brother, although in receipt of a qualifying payment, does not meet the conditions of either living alone or living with another person on a qualifying payment. Consequently neither party is eligible for the Fuel Allowance.
