Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tramore (County Waterford) Sewerage Scheme.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

28 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for the Environment if his approval has been sought for the construction of a sewage treatment plant at Riverstown, Tramore, County Waterford, with the outfall pipe located in the Rinnashark Channel on Saleen Beach; if his attention has been drawn to the serious concern in the area at the possible environmental damage which may be caused because the proposed outfall pipe does not extend far enough into the bay; if he will direct his Department's engineers or consultants to carry out an independent examination of the proposals before making a decision; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In accordance with statutory requirements, Waterford County Council have carried out an Environmental Impact Study in respect of the proposed Tramore Sewerage Scheme. Copies of this study were made available to the public who were also advised on 4 March 1992, through public advertisement, that any submissions or observations on the study should be made to the Minister within one month. The study and the submissions made within the required period are being assessed, and the matter should be determined shortly.
