Ceist:197 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make it compulsory for bicycle importers to have lights, both back and front, affixed to all new bicycles; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Existing regulations require bicycles used at night to be equipped with front and rear lamps, duly lit. I do not propose, however, to make regulations requiring all new bicycles to have front and rear lamps fitted as standard equipment because a significant number of these bicycles are designed for use, and are used, primarily during daylight hours.
