Vol. 424 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Mullaghmore (Clare) Centre.

Michael D. Higgins

Ceist:

40 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Finance whether a formal decision has been taken to proceed with the centre at Mullaghmore, County Clare; if so, when the decision was taken and when it will go ahead; the cost of the effluent disposal system which is supposed to protect the environment; and the overall cost of the entire centre.

The Cabinet considered the proposal to proceed with the Visitor Centre project for the Burren National Park on 13 October 1992. I subsequently approved the placing of a contract for phase 1 of the project involving the provision of the car-park and sewerage treatment plant and the contractor has since commenced works on the site. The phase 2 works involving the erection of the building itself will follow.

The effluent disposal system will cost in the region of £100,000 and the entire project is estimated at £2.7 million.
