Vol. 425 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cashen River (Kerry).

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

25 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance if he will provide the necessary finance to carry out major dredging work at the Cashen River, County Kerry as there is accelerated siltation at this location.

I am advised by the Commissioners of Public Works that they are aware of the siltation problem on the Cashen River and that it is being kept under review.

The funding of maintenance works on the Feale catchment drainage scheme in County Kerry of which the Cashen River forms part, is met from the allocation for arterial drainage maintenance in the Vote for the Office of Public Works. Critical works are given priority within the limited resources available.

There are no proposals to undertake major dredging work to remove siltation on the Cashen River this year as conditions in the river are not considered critical at this stage.
