Vol. 425 No. 8

Written Answers. - Inflationary Effect of Devaluation.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Ceist:

58 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Finance the steps, if any, the Government proposes to take to minimise the inflationary effect of devaluation.

The Government is fully determined that inflation will remain consistent with our requirement for export-led growth, in effect that will not exceed a low single-figure level — notwithstanding the influence of recent changes in currency parities.

While no specific steps are currently envisaged in consequence of recent events the Government will keep the situation under review and, the Deputy may rest assured, will act if action should appear warranted.
