Vol. 425 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Wicklow School Requirements.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

108 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education the provision, if any, she intends to make to meet the requirements of children in the Kilcoole/ Newtownmountkennedy/Delgany area who are without a secondary school at present; and the short term arrangements she intends to make in relation to school transport to bring these children else-where.

I am aware of the increased demand for post-primary places in the areas of east County Wicklow referred to by the Deputy. My Department is currently examining the post-primary needs of these areas in this context and in the light of a recent application by County Wicklow Vocational Education Committee for a new second level school in Kilcoole.

For the purposes of the post-primary school transport scheme, pupils from Kilcoole, Newtownmountkennedy and Delgany are regarded as living in the Bray/Greystones catchment area and are entitled to full transport to any post-primary school in that area, subject to the normal conditions. Catchment boundary facilities have been provided for pupils who wished to attend post-primary schools in other catchment areas.

If the Deputy will provide particulars of the children in question, I will have their needs investigated.
