Vol. 426 No. 1

Written Answers. - Orthopaedic Treatment.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

189 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in the provision of orthopaedic treatment for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo.

The position is that this patient was advised by her consultant in January last that her name had been included on the public waiting list for orthopaedic surgery and that it would take approximately six months before she could be called for treatment.

The Deputy will appreciate that the scheduling of admission to hospital is a matter for the consultant concerned and each case is assessed to determine its medical priority. Should the patient feel that her condition has deteriorated, she should return to her general practitioner who would be in the best position to stress the urgency of her case directly to the consultant at the hospital.
