Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - Temple Bar (Dublin) Development.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

172 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for the Environment the stage which development of the Temple Bar area has reached; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Responsibility at Government level for the renewal and development of the Temple Bar area as a cultural, residential and small business quarter was recently transferred from the Taoiseach to the Minister for the Environment. This new responsibility will complement and form part of my Department's overall programme of urban renewal aimed at promoting development and redevelopment in our inner cities and towns.

The development implementation company, Temple Bar Properties Ltd., has drawn up its overall development plan for the area and this will be launched later this week. A model of the development plan for the area will go on public display at the new Temple Bar public information centre in Eustace Street at that time.

Planning permission has been granted to Temple Bar Properties Ltd., for a number of projects, including two new open squares and a link street. Work on these particular projects is expected to be underway this summer. The private sector also has a number of important projects completed, in progress and in planning in the Temple Bar area.

To date, approximately 45 applications for approval for the special financial incentives available in Temple Bar have been submitted to Temple Bar Renewal Ltd.
