Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Projects.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

320 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if finance is available for the building of Kilmoyley national school, County Kerry; and if so when work will commence.

I have approved of the inclusion of this project in the 1993 primary capital programme. Tenders have been received and examined and the project is scheduled to proceed to contract as soon as the local contribution has been lodged.

Máirín Quill

Ceist:

321 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Education if the building of the extension to the Portumna Community School, County Galway is included in the 1993 Book of Estimates; and if so, when the extension is scheduled to start.

I have approved of the inclusion of this project in the 1993 post-primary capital programme. Architectural planning has been completed and tenders will be sought at a later stage with a view to construction commencing in the early autumn.

Máirín Quill

Ceist:

322 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Education the situation concerning the proposed new national school for Portumna, County Galway.

Architectural planning has been completed and the next step will be to finalise tender documentation. Because of other demands deemed to be of higher priority which had to take precedence it was not possible to include this project in the national school capital programme for 1993. It will continue to be considered for inclusion in due course in the light of available resources and other commitments and priorities.

Donal Carey

Ceist:

323 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that Ballybrohan national school, County Clare lost a roof from its prefab classroom on 17 December 1992; and the action, if any, she will take to have the new school built in 1993.

I am aware of the damage caused to the existing prefabricated classroom and I understand that two classes are now being accommodated in the local community centre.

This project is among those projects which I have authorised to proceed to contract as part of the national schools capital programme for 1993. Revisions are required in the architectural plans in this case and it is not possible at this stage to indicate when construction will commence.
