Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Intake Policy.

John Bruton

Ceist:

359 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if the authorities of the Community College in Dunshaughlin, County Meath and the second level school in Maynooth, County Kildare may refuse entry to students from Dunboyne, County Meath; where second level students from Dunboyne should go to school and where they can be guaranteed places.

Intake policy is primarily a matter for school management subject to acceptable criteria being applied. It would be expected that priority would be given to pupils who are resident in and attend primary schools within the school's own catchment area.

Dunboyne is located within the greater Dublin Post-primary catchment area for accommodation and full transport purposes. While the two second-level schools referred to by the Deputy have traditionally catered for Dunboyne pupils the management authorities of those schools would not be under any obligation to do so.

The other second level schools which currently cater for the majority of pupils leaving primary schools in Dunboyne are: Coolmine Community School, Dominican Convent, Cabra, St. Declan's CBS, Navan Road, and schools in Dublin City.
