18 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide funds for the refurbishment and making safe of the NBA-built housing estate at Glasgow Park, County Limerick, as was done in respect of other similar defective NBA housing estates in other parts of the country.
These houses, which were built in the early seventies, are in private ownership and accordingly responsibility for their upkeep rests with the individual owners. While there are no grants available from my Department for house improvements, it is open to the owners to avail of the special arrangements offered to them by Limerick Corporation, including the enhanced terms approved by my Department for house improvement loans. On the basis of this package, it should be possible for Limerick Corporation, in conjunction with the residents, to work out satisfactory overall arrangements for the carrying out of the necessary improvements to these houses.
