Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

86 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of advisers appointed to his office, their suitability for the job, and their background and training; if these positions were advertised; the contracts on which they were appointed; the amounts paid to each individual; and the role each, or any particular group, will play in formulating or implementing Government policy.

The information requested by the Deputy in respect of advisers being appointed to my office and their general role has already been furnished in response to Parliamentary Question No. 151, which was answered on 10 February 1993 and Parliamentary Question No. 83, which was answered on 16 February 1993.

The selection of advisers is a matter for each Government Minister. Both my adviser and my partnership programme manager are civil servants seconded to the Minister's office. The posts were not advertised. The contracts of the advisers are in accordance with standard terms and conditions determined by the Department of Finance.
