Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Response to Call.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

97 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if she will establish the reasons the Garda at the Bridewell, Dublin 7 did not respond to telephone calls at 5.10 p.m. and 5.40 p.m. on Saturday 13 February 1993 from a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 who suffered a terrifying ordeal as a result; and, if the explanation given late that evening by gardaí that there were no Garda cars available between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday while prisoners are being transported from the Bridewell is satisfactory.

I have received a Garda report in this matter. I accept that in the particular circumstances of this case, the speed of the response was not what the situation required. This is very much regretted. Arrangements have been made for a Garda inspector to call on the complainant to explain what happened.
