Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - Fish Catch in Territorial Waters.

Dan Wallace

Ceist:

196 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Minister for the Marine the total value of the fish catch in Irish territorial waters in each of the last five years; the percentage of this catch taken by Irish fishermen; and if comparable statistics are available for other EC countries with significant territorial waters such as France, Spain, the UK and Greece.

Details of Ireland's fish catch are recorded by ICES (International Council for the Exploration of the Sea) statistical area. ICES areas are used by the European Community to assign fishing quotas to member states. These areas do not correspond with Irish or, indeed, any member state's territorial waters. Accordingly, the information sought by the Deputy is not available.
