Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - Steel Exports.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

244 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the action, if any, taken in response to the recent US action against steel imports from the EC; if the Government had made separate representations to the US or if the EC acted on our behalf; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ireland has not been directly affected by recent US action on anti-dumping and countervailing duty cases relating to imports of steel from the EC as we have had no exports to the US of the products involved. Accordingly, we have made no specific representations to the US on this issue. We have, of course, taken part in EC deliberations on the issue and have supported the actions taken. We will continue to participate at EC level with a view to satisfactorily resolving the matter.
