John Browne

Ceist:

247 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the grade of each civil servant appointed as a special adviser in his Department and the number of appointments made to fill the vacant grades concerned.

As I informed the House on 16 February last, I have not appointed any special advisers.

248 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the number of people who are members of Fianna Fáil or the Labour Party appointed by him since assuming office; and the position held by each of these people in the relevant political party.

Mr. Michael Fitzpatrick, whom I have re-appointed as my personal assistant, following my appointment as Minister for Tourism and Trade is a member of Fianna Fáil and holds the following positions within the party: member of Fianna Fáil National Executive; chairman of Kildare comhairle Dáil ceantair, Fianna Fáil and secretary of Robertstown Fianna Fáil cumann.

I have not appointed a civil servant as a special adviser in my Department.

Higgins asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the number of people who are members of Fianna Fáil or the Labour Party appointed by him and the Minister(s) of State at his Department since assuming office; and the position held by each of these people in the relevant political party.

I do not propose to either elicit or disclose the information sought by the Deputy since political affiliation is a private and personal matter.
