Ceist:269 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he proposes to carry out a country wide audit of surgical practices to help surgeons objectively assess the quality of the service they provide.

Under the terms of the revised consultants contract, each consultant will participate in creating and operating a medical audit system. Each employing authority will provide the necessary support and organisational systems including, where appropriate, a regional audit system.
While this initiative is still being developed, I am satisfied that when completed, the process will provide a continuing assessment of the services provided.
