Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Registration Forms.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

334 Ms. McManus asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that registration forms for many schools are phrased in a sexist manner which seeks the father's occupation only; and the action, if any, she intends to take in the matter.

The enrolment of pupils in schools is a matter for the management authorities of the individual schools. As my Department is not involved in the enrolment process, I would not be aware of any registration forms used by schools.

I would not condone the use of any forms phrased in a sexist manner if such are in use.

I note the Deputy's concern in the matter, however, and I will arrange to have it brought to the attention of school management representative bodies.
