Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - INTERREG Programme.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

77 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of all schemes for County Louth approved by the working group which deliberated on INTERREG funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

To date five projects located entirely in County Louth have been approved by the various working groups under the INTERREG Programme. These are expenditure on upgrading the transport facilites at Dundalk bus station, improvements of the Greencore and Hoeys Lane, Dundalk Roads, restoration of the 14th century Dominican Priory and a promotion project by the Dundalk Round Table.

County Louth will also benefit from a larger number of projects having a wider geographical coverage than the county, such as tourism promotion of the Mourne Mountains, South Armagh and Cooley Peninsula by Newry and Mourne District Council and the Midlands-East Regional Tourism Organisation, or designed to benefit the entire Border region covered by INTERREG, such as the Gulliver All-Ireland computerised reservations system being developed by Bord Fáilte and the Northern Ireland Tourism Board.

A number of projects under the various measures are still being considered by the working groups and decisions on them are due to be announced shortly.
