Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - Stationery Purchases.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

82 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance the quantity of paper purchased by him for other Departments; and the quantity of this which is recycled paper.

The Government Supplies Agency of the Office of Public Works supplied paper and paper products to all Government Departments/Offices in 1992 as follows:

Type of Paper

Value in £'s (Incl. VAT)

£

Envelopes

880,000

Cut papers for use in typing, laser printers, offset machines, etc.

155,000

Miscellaneous paper products (e.g. note books, memo pads, folders, labels, wrapping paper, carbon paper, etc.)

280,000

Toilet Tissue

120,000

Photocopying Paper

445,000

Paper supplied by GSA to printers on behalf of Departments/Offices

730,000

Recycled Paper

80,000

Total value of Paper Products Supplied

2,690,000

The information sought is available in value terms only as with the wide range of paper and paper products supplied to Departments and Offices it is not possible to accurately quantify this by tonnage.
In addition to the above there is a large volume of printing contracts placed on behalf of Departments/Offices where the printer supplies the paper directly and where the paper portion is not broken down separately.
Much of the paper used for envelopes and toilet issue is also recycled.
