Vol. 427 No. 7

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Services.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Ceist:

36 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Health if there has been a full-time permanent appointment of an orthodontist in the Eastern Health Board area; if not, if he will give the name of the person doing the work in view of the long waiting list and high demand for this very essential treatment.

A Professor of Clinical Orthodontics has been appointed between the Eastern Health Board and the Dublin Dental Hospital and School. This is the basis for the board's strategic development in the delivery of orthodontic services for Eastern Health Board patients. As part of this development the board propose to share at least three consultants in orthodontics, including the Professorial post whose remit will be to further develop orthodontic services for priority cases in the Board's area. A steering committee has been established to advise and assist in this strategic development.
