Ceist:

192 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the allocation received by Ireland under the REGEN programme dealing with natural gas and electricity networks for backward regions in each of the years from 1988 to 1992; the uses to which this money has been put; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The European Commission's REGEN Initiative was designed to grant-aid five specified energy infrastructural projects throughout the Community including the Ireland/UK natural gas interconnector. The level of assistance allocated to the Irish project is 35 per cent of approved cost.

The value of the payments received to date in respect of expenditure in each year is:
