Vol. 428 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dublin Sub-Regional Committee Report.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

90 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance if funds are available for a feasibility study to draw up an integrated urban redevelopment plan for the lower Rutland Street, Dublin 1 study area, referred to in section 9.7.4 of the Dublin Sub-Regional Review Committee report; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No funds have been set aside under the current round of the Structural Funds for such a feasibility study. The Dublin Sub-Regional Review Committee Submission referred to in the question lists integration of run down areas as a priority measure for consideration in the context of the next round of the EC Structural Funds which will cover the period 1994 to 1999. It should be noted that, under the current Structural Fund Regulations, assistance towards urban renewal is provided on a limited basis towards projects which have a direct link to economic developments, especially in the tourism sector.

The proposals set out in the Dublin Sub-Regional Review Committee submission will be considered in the light of any changes in eligibility for such urban renewal measures as may be provided for in the Regulations to govern the post 1993 Structural Funds which will be negotiated at Community level over the coming months.

The Sub-Regional Review Committee submissions along with submissions from Government Departments, State Bodies and the Social Partners will be considered in the preparation of the National Development Plan which is being drawn up in the context of the next round of the Structural Funds.
