113 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will give details of the support that is available to an unemployed person with a good business proposal which would employ four people and requires start-up financial support of less than £10,000.

FÁS operates an Enterprise Scheme which is designed to encourage persons on the Live Register in receipt of unemployment compensation to set up in business and become financially independent. A payment of £40 per week is paid to a person without dependants, while a person with dependants is paid £65 per week, with the payment lasting for 40 weeks. Persons interested in participating in the scheme should contact the local FÁS office.

Additional assistance may be available if the proposal comes within the area covered by one of 12 Area Based Partnership Companies established under theProgramme for Economic and Social Progress. The areas are as follows: Ballymun, Coolock/Darndale, Cork North City, Dublin Inner City, Dundalk, Finglas, South West Kerry, Limerick City, North Mayo, Tallaght, West Waterford, South West Waterford. Furthermore, if the proposal is located in the western counties of Donegal, Monaghan, Cavan, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Longford, Galway, Clare, West Limerick, Kerry or West Cork, it may be eligible for assistance from the Western Development Fund administered under the County Development Team Structures in those counties.
