Vol. 428 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

150 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a beef premium and a suckler cow grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This person was paid his grants under the 1992 suckler cow premium scheme and also on foot of his June 1992 application for special beef premium schemes in early February 1993. His December 1992 application for grants under the special beef premium scheme will be processed as soon as possible.

Ceist:

151 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a beef subsidy and a suckler herd grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This applicant's 1992 beef cow and equines headage and 1992 suckler cow premium schemes grants are being processed at present and, if found in order, payment will issue shortly.

His December 1992 special beef premium scheme application will be processed as soon as possible.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

152 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if an additional milk quota will be awarded to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No application for additional quota has been received from the producer referred to. Special forms are available for applications, on grounds of hardship, to the Milk Quota Appeals Tribunal. I have arranged for a form to be issued in this case.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

153 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason for the delay in the payment of a beef premium to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; when this was approved for payment; and when payment will issue.

The application of the person named for grants under the 1992 special beef premium scheme is being processed at present and, if found in order, payment will be made shortly.

The delay in this case was due to pressure of work at the local livestock office.

The case was approved for payment by the local office on 9 March 1993.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

154 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason for the delay in the payment of a beef premium to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; when the inspection was carried out; and when payment will be issued.

The application of the person named for grants under his June 1992 application for the 1992 special beef premium scheme was rejected by computer at validation stage. The error is being dealt with at present. When resolved the application will be processed further and, if found in order, payment will then be made. The file in this case is with the Department's field staff at present in connection with the December 1992 application for special beef premium. Therefore, I am unable to give the exact date of inspection for his June application.

Ceist:

155 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a beef premium will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

The application of the person named for grants under the June 1992 special beef premium scheme was rejected by computer at validation stage. The problem has now been rectified and payment will be made shortly.

Ceist:

156 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a beef premium will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

Further investigation is necessary in this case before a decision can be made as to the eligibility of the person named for grants under the June 1992 special beef premium scheme. His December 1992 application for grants under the special beef premium scheme will be processed as soon as possible.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

158 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when cattle headage, suckler cow and beef premium grants will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo.

This person was paid part of his grants under the 1992 cattle and equines headage scheme in mid December 1992 and the balance in mid March 1993. His application for grants under the 1992 suckler cow premium scheme is being processed at present and payment will be made shortly. He did not apply for grants under the 1992 special beef premium.

Michael P. Kitt

Ceist:

159 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when cattle headage grants will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

This person was paid his grants under the 1992 cattle and equines headage scheme in early February 1993 and suckler cow premium scheme in late December 1992. His application for grants under the June 1992 special beef premium scheme is being processed at present and, if found in order, payment will be made shortly. He did not apply for grants under the special beef premium scheme in the December 1992 application period.

Colm M. Hilliard

Ceist:

160 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the position in regard to cowplots in County Meath in view of the pending closure of the Irish Land Commission; if the present system of trustees will continue; and if he will give details of the future use the land will be put to.

On the dissolution of the Land Commission its remaining functions including those relating to properties such as cowplots will be transferred to a special unit within my Department.

While I have no immediate plans to discontinue the existing system of trustees or cowplot schemes the situation is under review. It may be that the concept of the communal cowplot with its attendant animal disease risks is an outdated one for which there is no longer any great demand. If this proves to be the case the powers provided in the Land Purchase Acts will be used to revoke the relevant schemes and the lands involved will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of the Land Purchase Acts.
