237 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Education when she will appoint the next allocation of secretaries to primary schools with less than 500 pupils in view of the commitments in the Programme for a Partnership Government 1993 to 1997 to provide better facilities for the country's primary schools.
In order to augment the resources available to schools a phased programme of financial assistance by way of a supplementary capitation grant for the provision of clerical and caretaking services in national schools was introduced from 1 September 1992 under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.
Provision of £1.256 million has been made in the budget for the continuation of assistance to phase one schools and the introduction of phase two from 1 September 1993.
Details of the criteria to apply to phase two are under consideration at present.
