Vol. 428 No. 6

Written Answers. - Jobs Statistics.

Michael McDowell

Ceist:

40 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of new jobs that have been created in 1993; the number of job losses and the net loss or gain of jobs in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will appreciate that it is much too early to say at this stage how many jobs are likely to be created, or lost, in 1993.

The industrial development agencies operating throughout the country, namely the IDA, Shannon Development and Údarás na Gaeltachta, carry out an annual employment survey of industrial firms in November/December of each year which gives details of job losses and gains during the year in question.

Results for 1992 showed that there were gross job gains during the year of 18,638 and gross job losses of 19,028.
