130 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine the number of items of telecommunications equipment such as fax machines, telephone lines including phone plus systems, and other such equipment provided by his Department to the ministerial assistants, programme managers, special assistants, or advisers who are acting for himself or his Minister of State which have been paid for through his Department's Vote or other State subvention; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of items of telecommunications equipment purchased by the Department of the Marine are as follows: fax machines, 2; telephone lines, 8; phone plus, nil; pagers, 1; car phone, 2; mobile phones, 2.

131 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine the total cost of the provision of telecommunications equipment for himself, his Minister of State, special advisers and other such persons for the year ending 31 December 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for the Marine (Mr. Andrews)

The total cost of telecommunications equipment purchased by the Department of the Marine for the Minister, Minister of State, special advisers and a secretarial assistant for the year ending 31 December, 1992 was £6,993, broken down as follows: telephone system, £3,025; 3 mobile phones, £2,855; 2 fax machines, £1,872; 1 direct line, £116; 1 external extension, £876.

132 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine the number of extra mobile phones and car telephones provided for himself, his Minister of State, programme managers, advisers, or assistants, since the formation of the Government; the cost of such service in a full year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for the Marine (Mr. Andrews)

One car phone and two mobile phones were provided by the Department of the Marine for the Minister, Minister of State, programme manager and personal assistant since the formation of the Government. The cost of such service for the year is: Capital Expenditure, £4,276; Current Expenditure (estimated), £8,040. No extra mobile phones or car telephones were provided for the other persons referred to by the Deputy.
