Vol. 429 No. 1

Written Answers. - Environmental Protection Act.

Patrick D. Harte

Ceist:

34 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for the Environment when the remaining provisions of the Environmental Protection Agency Act will come into force.

All of the provisions of the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992, except for sections 18 (1), 43 and 93, Part V and the three Schedules commenced on the passing of the Act on 23 April, 1992. Section 18 (1) relating to noise, and the Third Schedule, amending the Air Pollution Act, 1987, will be commenced shortly. The remaining provisions will be commenced as the Environmental Protection Agency becomes operational. I announced recently the appointment of a director general and four other directors of the agency and I intend that the agency will be formally established in the next few months when the directors have had an opportunity of completing the necessary preliminary arrangements.
