Ceist:137 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment when he expects to introduce general local government legislation.

Legislation to establish three new county councils in Dublin will be introduced later this year so as to enable the councils to be established on 1 January, 1994. Work is also underway on the preparation of a Bill to modernise local government law generally and I hope that it will be possible to introduce this in the autumn.
