Measures currently in place to encourage investment in Irish tourism are available to potential investors, from Ireland and overseas alike. These measures include grants for a range of tourist developments under various EC programmes, including the tourism programme, operating under the Community Support Framework for Ireland 1989-1993; tax reliefs such as capital allowances, and incentives under the urban renewal development scheme.
I am currently in the process of preparing a tourism development plan for the period up to end 1997, including proposals for tourism expenditure from the next tranche of EC Structural Funds, and in this context I will be reviewing, inter alia, the role of overseas investment in developing the sector over that period.
