Ceist:264 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the plans, if any, he has to amend the Electricity Acts.

Proposals for a restructuring of the ESB are under consideration at present. These proposals could require legislative changes in the manner in which the ESB is regulated and related matters.
In addition the EC Commission's proposals for an internal electricity market, which are under discussion, are likely to require amendments to the various legislative frameworks in member states.
Until these issues become clearer I am not in a position to advise the Deputy of any plans to amend the Electricity Acts.
