Vol. 429 No. 7

Written Answers. - Carbon Dioxide Emissions.

John Bruton

Ceist:

78 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment his policy in regard to the curbing of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere; and the proportion of total Irish carbon dioxide emissions coming from the ESB and from State-owned industries and installations generally.

I refer to the replies to Questions Nos. 30 and 41 of 1 April 1993 and Question No. 152 of 27 April 1993 where I stated my intention of publishing shortly a national CO² abatement strategy. National emissions of CO² in 1990 were estimated at 8.9 million tonnes of carbon, with emissions from electricity generation accounting for some 3 million tonnes of this figure. Disaggregated figures for other State owned industries and installations are not available.
