I propose to take Questions Nos. 31, 34, 36, 54, 75, 95 and 103 together.

I am aware that one of the recommendations of the Second Commission on the Status of Women is that multi-annual funding should be provided to rape crisis centres from health boards.

Prior to 1991 funding for rape crisis centres came from a number of sources. The unsatisfactory nature of this type of funding was recognised by Government and, following a Government decision in July 1991, it was decided to fund these centres from my Department's national lottery allocation and to channel this assistance through the health boards. This arrangement is similar to that used by health boards to fund voluntary bodies for some community and family planning functions. It is my intention that these new arrangements for funding rape crisis centres will continue.

In 1993 funding for rape counselling centres and services will be £248,000, an increase of 90 per cent on funding in 1992.
